Trupeo is not on the App Store or the Play Store. You install it from the browser, in two taps, and it then behaves like an app: an icon on the home screen, full screen, no address bar.
When you open Trupeo in your phone’s browser, a “Trupeo on your home screen” banner offers it and says what to do on your phone. “Not now” hides it, and “How do I do this?” leads to this page.
On iPhone and iPad
You need Safari. Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot install an app; that is
an iOS limit, not a Trupeo one. In those browsers the banner tells you to open
app.trupeo.com in Safari.
- Open
app.trupeo.comin Safari and sign in. - Tap the Share button, the square with the upward arrow.
- Scroll down and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
- Confirm with “Add”.
On Android
When Chrome allows it, the Trupeo banner has an “Install” button: tap it and confirm. Otherwise, the three-dot menu of the browser has “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
If you opened Trupeo from inside another app
A link tapped in Gmail, WhatsApp, Messenger or LinkedIn does not open your browser. It opens a small browser built into that app, and those cannot install anything: there is no “Install app” entry in the menu, and on iPhone the Share sheet has no “Add to Home Screen”. The Trupeo banner says so: “Open this page in your browser to install Trupeo.”
Nothing is broken and there is nothing to fix on your side. Open the page in your real browser first:
- Android: the three-dot menu of that small browser has “Open in Chrome” or “Open in browser”.
- iPhone: the same menu has “Open in Safari”.
Then install from there. If you cannot find the entry, type app.trupeo.com
into Chrome or Safari by hand: it comes to the same thing.
The step iPhones force on you
On iPhone, notifications do not work until Trupeo is on the home screen. Safari does not allow them for an ordinary web page.
That is why, in Safari, the “Notifications” page of the settings shows “Add Trupeo to your home screen first, then turn notifications on.”, with “How to install Trupeo”, instead of the “Turn it on” button: at that point the permission does not exist yet.
The order matters:
- Add Trupeo to the home screen.
- Open Trupeo from that icon, not from Safari.
- The banner now reads “Turn notifications on”: tap “Turn them on”. You can also do it from the settings: your account’s “Notifications” page, “Notifications on this device” line, “Turn it on”. And as soon as an email is handed to you, “For me” asks once: “Get a notification on this phone when an email is handed to you?”.
- Accept the iOS prompt.
If you try from the Safari tab rather than the icon, it cannot work. That is the classic trap.
On Android this constraint does not exist: notifications work in Chrome as well as in the installed app. Installing is still nicer, and once installed, the banner offers to turn notifications on in the same way.
If notifications are blocked
If you dismissed the prompt once, the browser will not ask again. Trupeo then says so: the banner shows “Your browser is blocking notifications. Allow them in your browser settings.”, and the settings’ “Notifications” page “Blocked by this browser. Trupeo can’t turn them back on for you.”
- iPhone: Settings, Notifications, Trupeo.
- Android: long press the icon, App info, Notifications.
Turning phone notifications off does not touch your emails: see Set up your notifications.
Attachments in the app on iPhone
In the app installed on an iPhone or iPad, a photo someone sent opens in a viewer inside Trupeo: close it to get back to the mail. Any other file opens above Trupeo rather than in its place: close it and the mail is still there.
Trupeo on a phone’s screen
The list of emails fills the screen. At the top, the view’s name and the mailbox’s (tap it to switch mailboxes), “Search” and the notifications bell, with the number of new ones. At the bottom, a bar goes from one view to another: “For me”, “To assign”, “Still to do” and “More”, which opens the rest: “Contacts” first, then the other views, the labels or folders, “Help” and “Settings”. “New email” sits just above the bar.
Swipe a row to the left for “Mark done”, to the right for “I’ll take it”. A long press ticks it, to act on several emails at once.
An open email fills the screen. Its buttons stay at the bottom, under your thumb: two at most (one on a small phone), and ”⋯” for the rest. Its labels and its scope are under the last email. At the top left, the name of the view you came from, for example “For me”, takes you back to the list. See Understand the To assign view.
What installing does not change
It is the same Trupeo, the same account, the same data. Nothing is stored differently and there is no cut-down mobile version: your views, the search and the emails are all there unchanged.
