Install Trupeo on your phone

Adding Trupeo to the home screen on iPhone and Android, and why that step is required before phone alerts work on iPhone.

Trupeo is not on the App Store or the Play Store. You install it from the browser, in two taps, and it then behaves like an app: an icon on the home screen, full screen, no address bar.

On iPhone and iPad

You need Safari. Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot install an app; that is an iOS limit, not a Trupeo one.

  1. Open app.trupeo.com in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button, the square with the upward arrow.
  3. Scroll down and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  4. Confirm with “Add”.

On Android

In Chrome an “Install app” banner often appears on its own. Otherwise the three-dot menu has “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.

The step iPhones force on you

On iPhone, alerts do not work until Trupeo is on the home screen. Safari does not allow them for an ordinary web page.

That is why the notifications screen shows “Add Trupeo to your home screen first, then turn alerts on” instead of the “Turn it on” button: at that point the permission does not exist yet.

The order matters:

  1. Add Trupeo to the home screen.
  2. Open Trupeo from that icon, not from Safari.
  3. Go to notifications and tap “Turn it on”.
  4. Accept the iOS prompt.

If you turn them on from the Safari tab rather than the icon, nothing happens. That is the classic trap.

On Android this constraint does not exist: alerts work in Chrome as well as in the installed app. Installing is still nicer.

If alerts are blocked

If you dismissed the prompt once, the browser will not ask again. Trupeo then shows “Your browser is blocking alerts. Allow them in your browser settings.”

  • iPhone: Settings, Notifications, Trupeo.
  • Android: long press the icon, App info, Notifications.

Turning phone alerts off does not touch your emails: see Set up your notifications.

What installing does not change

It is the same Trupeo, the same account, the same data. Nothing is stored differently and there is no cut-down mobile version: your views, the search and the conversations are all there unchanged.

Next step

Once it is installed, decide what should reach you: Set up your notifications.
